Not so Weekly Review # 5 – New Things

Hello everybody!

As you can see, I am very consistent with my writing. So, what happened lately?

Well, I have been looking for a new job, and I am soon starting in a new company as an Information Security Officer, which I’m looking forward to.

Besides that, I have spent some time improving my web development and design skills. I built a website for my business using nextjs with typescript and tailwind, which I haven’t used before. You can check it out under www.danieljuch.com

To improve my design skills, I got a TeamTreehouse course package from HumbleBundle, which is quite interesting. I then started using Sketch. I definitely need more practice, but I like it, and it’s quite fun and useful to pursue since I’m now building websites in my personal business, too.

Another big change is that I started my Master’s degree in “IT & Mobile Security” at the same university where I finished my Bachelor’s. Well, it’s not a big change compared to the last few years, but the summer break was nice.

Building websites…

I am also building a website for a client, for which I use WordPress and Elementor. While I created this blog on wordpress.com, I have never used Elementor before, but I like it. It makes sense why it is so popular. If everything works out, the website for my client will launch before my new job starts next week, but this does not only depend on me. We will see.

Additionally, I want to move this blog from WordPress.com to my own server. The biggest reason for that is that you need to subscribe to the business plan, which is $25 per month, to be able to use plugins, which is pretty annoying if you have just a small blog. Self-hosting the blog also offers more options for me to customize it and experiment a little more, which is always a plus.

So yeah, that’s what is going on for me. If you have any questions or input, let me know!
